funny i checked out word or noticed “aback” today in my new app dictionary. the definition seemed odd to me. had it under sailing instead of surprise.

Dear Eileen, usage here is considered archaic, toward the rear…someway down the road,
more colloquially; and still in usage in sailing and, generally nowadays, surprise.
I love my dictionary (but can’t tell you which…I’ve been forbidden mention of such
things, but its just one of the best ever). Wiktionary is good too, from Wikipedia.
Person I talked with this afternoon…his wife called then, with a flat tire.
It gave me pause, although more acclimated to the so called ‘odd’ than earlier in life.
